Isolde Hunter's third book of poetry includes some of the many people she has encountered throughout her nearly eighty years of living. From the everyday, such as her postman or a neighbor, to such literary giants as Hemingway, or humanitarian Mother Teresa, Ms. Hunter's people come to life in her astute vignettes. Sometimes satirical, ('The Politician'), sometimes wistful ('Dear Nana'), and even humorous, ('Diva of Deception'), these poems connect us with our own living experiences in an enriching manner.

A People Potpouri In Verse and Poetry Isolde Izzy Hunter Books

Poetry is an art; and within its many forms throughout history, I must begin by saying that the poems in “A People Potpourri” are indicative of a late 20th and 21st Century style, form and use of language, namely they do not offer laborious and intricate structures of thought filled with arcane diction and schizophrenic syntax: this is a wonderful thing! The main reason being, these humble poems are for the common people and therefore render service to the majority.

Poetry at its heart should offer to the reader an emotive experience undergirded by such crafted lines, in order that though we are overcome with the poet’s sentiments pouring into our very own, we have in the end the safety net of beautifully rendered poetic feet to carry us through those feelings: happiness, sorrow, forlornness, confusion, bewitchment, anger, hatred and of course, love. I have found in many of these poems, Ms. Isolde “Izzy” Hunter has achieved just that. I have been moved and carried by lines such as: “each spirit slowly dies”, “hilarity with friends”, “His innate charm belies” and so many more. Poetry is a window for us to see the ordinary in a way that is now extraordinary and because of this work the author has shared with us, I shall never see fire ants the same way again.

To wrap this up, there is something here for most folks, because most folks are down-to-earth, living common lives and despite the poet’s many larger-than-life adventures, she has captured for us the spark that lives in the overlooked things of the world—the glorious butterflies we all take for granted, those little winged beauties to which we have grown blind and to our own chagrin we fail to behold in gratitude. Ms. Hunter will help us see those little things again, that we may believe that happiness and love can take the day, but such aspirations are to be sown in the soil of gratefulness.

If you enjoy poetry occasionally or you are as keenly fond of it as I am, then buy this book and add to your life delights that will not be there otherwise. Reading these works is worth the time. Do yourself a favor and always “…Remember to pick up the penny.”

A People Potpouri In Verse and Poetry Isolde Izzy Hunter Books Reviews

What an enjoyable collection of prose and poetry. The pieces are sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, sometimes outrageous and often thought provoking. I enjoyed reading one or two at a time to prolong the experience. It was a steal on !
This is Izzy's third published book and the most inspirational for me. She and I were friends from many years ago so she knows me well ! Those memories she wrote about shine brightly in her writings, opening windows of all the best years of my life and reminding me of the abundant blessings God has showered upon me. I believe Izzy's talents were always meant to be shared with a world that desperately needs her love, compassion, friendship and wisdom.
It is truly a heavenly gift that she has fulfilled a lifetime dream and I want to thank her for letting me be a part of it!
Please let me start by saying to know Izzy is to love her and we met about 10 years ago in our older years so we never knew each other in our younger years. Izzy lived a very exciting and successful life and she is so gifted that she is able to share so many wonderful and some sad moments of her life. What is important is the honesty she is capable of sharing with us and in reading her lovely book you can relate to so many of her experiences ... to choose a favorite would be very difficult for me but "The Older Woman" I found to be just beautiful and "For My Son (After I'm Gone)" I was sobbing as I read it and "2 A.M. Dearest Grandma" was very touching. So whether you are young or old I'm sure you would be delighted to read these wonderful stories of life in Verse and Poetry ... I am anxiously looking forward to her next book ... quite a lady she is ...
Insightful and incisive, spiced with humor, tempered with poignancy, an account of a life richly lived, Izzy's eloquent words take us through a journey of our own as we read, spellbound, savoring the gamut of emotions left in the wake of each poem. Her writing is broad in scope covering the immediate environs as well as the world at large, mingling personal day to day encounters with people, animals and the many gifts of nature, as well as larger than life personalities such as Mother Teresa who have shaped her life. At the same time it is a journey deep into one's self seeking deep spiritual truth. Joy of life meets impending transition to an existence beyond, in bittersweet congruence. The stark honesty with which she displays her experiences and perceptions is manna to my soul in this era of deception and hypocrisy. Izzy you have done it again with this magnificent book. May your words continue to flow and shower us with your talent and your wisdom.
Well, Izzy Hunter has done it again! Out of the wealth of her experiences and the wisdom of her interactions with people, she's created another book--another great book! The beauty of her offerings is that she truly seems to understand the ups and downs--the triumphs and tragedies of the human experience. In A People Potpouri Izzy introduces you to many of the inhabitants of this world who have helped make her the woman she is today. Some of these folks are personal friends--others individuals Izzy knows only through observation--but they have all impacted on her assessment of the human condition. As with her other two books, you'll find some smiles, some laughs, and perhaps a few little tears as you enjoy the read. But whatever else you find, you're sure to find the time you spend reading this book, time well-spent.
I've been savoring this latest offering from friend Isolde, then happened to open the page containing "The Procrastinator" -- hit me between the eyes! Her clear thought on this, as in many other poetic essays, strikes to the heart. "Swallow foolish pride! / Time may bring a positive surprise." Indeed! Reminiscing about her grandmother reminds me of questions I never asked my parents
"Pack up your bags, girl, SEE THE WORLD -- and choose Life's Celebration!"

Buy and enjoy this book, full of love, so especially welcome in this season of despair.
